Hiding In Plain Sight
Up Here in Kuerner's orchard sitting in the shade I feel very invisible. Cars drive by on Ring Road, visitors from the museum stop by on tours, even Karl comes in to feed the animals and I go on working without anybody taking notice.
Mr. Kuerner has stopped cutting hay. He worked until he was 89 years old harder than any one I know. Finally they turned that work over to the mushroom farmers who go about it differently. The grass gets longer between cuttings. The big spruce tree that once stood in front of the stone porch has been taken down giving the scene a new look with more space to see the driveway out and the hill across ring road.
