DEL'S   LUNCHEONETTE   AMBLER, PENNSYLVAINIA

This is the first scene I did
when I went home to work in Ambler.
I'd been living on Maui for years.

Old friends noticing me
back in town kept stopping to say hello.

Inside were the old spinning
chrome counter stools.
On the counter, a row of small jute boxes
displayed many of the songs
I'd listened to twentyfive years back.

The same waitress was still
serving hoagies and cheesesteaks
at the same prices
displayed on the same menu board.

The policeman, the football coach and the barber
were still sitting in the same booth drinking coffee.
How I enjoyed taking lunch and coffee breaks
listening to old songs
and over hearing familiar conversations.

It's said, you can never go home
...maybe not.
But this was very very close.
